Dr. Samuel Logan

Dr. Logan was born and raised in California where he completed medical school and six years of general surgery residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) followed by two years of plastic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Previously, he received his undergraduate degree in physics and a Ph.D. in engineering from California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Dr. Logan served on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis from 1984 to 1989 with a joint appointment in the Department of Surgery, (Division of Plastic Surgery) and the Department of Engineering. In this capacity, he performed reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery, taught medical students, residents, and graduate students, and carried out research in plastic surgery and applied engineering technology.

Dr. Logan has received many academic and medical awards throughout his career including fellowship research grants from the Hertz Foundation, the Whitaker Foundation, and Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation. He has been published in respected scientific and medical journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The Annals of Plastic Surgery, The British Journal of Plastic Surgery, The Journal of Hand Surgery, and The American Journal of Cardiology. In addition, he has contributed chapters to several medical textbooks.

Dr. Logan was recruited to the Southwest Michigan area in 1990 to establish plastic surgery in St. Joseph, Michigan. Stonegate Plastic Surgery Center was developed for this thriving practice and includes an accredited surgical facility as well as an affiliated medical spa, The Spa at Stonegate.

Dr. Logan has earned board certification in general surgery (ABS 1983), plastic surgery (ABPS 1985), and hand surgery (Certificate of Added Qualifications for Hand Surgery, CAQHS, 1989 and 1998). Dr. Logan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Association of Hand Surgery, and the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. In 2003, he was elected to the prestigious American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery are among a select group of board certified plastic surgeons who have obtained the highest level of achievement in cosmetic surgical training, continuing education and clinical experience.

Family and extracurricular interests

Dr. Logan and his wife reside in St. Joseph and have four adult sons. Throughout the years, their family has participated in missions trips providing surgical and humanitarian work in a number of foreign countries including Bangladesh, West Africa, Indonesia, the Amazon and Dominican Republic. Dr. Logan counts it a privilege to serve on an international mission board, which supports a number of these efforts. In addition to missions, he enjoys flying and holds commercial, instrument and multiengine ratings.
